I recently came across a new concept (to me anyway) at a recent gig for ‘Billy the Fish’ and strangely a day after for Rosie Ferguson, both parties gave each table a song title and they were informed, when they hear their record, they have to get up and party and the title that gets the most dancers / atmosphere / noise, you name it, wins a bottle of bubbly. It works really well.

It’s always a good idea to express the style or type of music that you ideally want, some like cheese, some want a soulfull night, however, pre armed, we can build the lighting and sound of our DJ rig to compliment the style of the evening, from a chill out lounge to an 80′s disco party.

So, when you book, lets chat about what you want, after all it is your party!!

This event, is the first of its kind in North Yorkshire, offering a fun and enjoyable way to show our support to our soldiers, both serving and veterans. A great day out – with ABF The Soldiers’ Charity working with Help for Heroes, Combat Stress, BLESMA, Battleback and the RAF Benevolent Fund.

In my, and many of my colleagues experience, a party is far more successful if you select a venue where the bar is in the same room as the disco or the band. By nature, people are always attracted to the bar, therefore, to ensure a good atmosphere, prevent the chance of your guests sneaking off and finding a drink and someone to chat with! Also, another bit of good advice, if the venue is suitable for 100 guests, then make sure the quantity of people you invite meets the minimum size of the room, it is much harder to create a good atmosphere in a room that holds 100 guests and ther are only 50 attending the party.

Another sensible suggestion is try to arrange a visit to the venue when there is a party in action, you get a true feeling of how the location works as a party place. When you are walking around with out guests you are unable to see where bottle necks occur in the flow of the rooms or whether the dancefloor is busy or not, however, that also could be the DJ!! Like all industries, there are cowboys that operate as Mobile DJ’s, as Watchdog showed on there TV program; they give the professional, reliable DJ’s a bad name.

When booking a Mobile Disco, it is advisable to get a written contract; this is good for both the client and the DJ, it gives peace of mind and professional commitment from both parties.

Additional things to ask for are proof of their Public liability insurance and their PAT test certificate to ensure their equipment is safe and within legal guidelines.

A professional DJ with pride in their service will normally have evidence of their abilities, a website or marketing material with pictures of their set-up, testimonials from their previous customers and more importantly a biography on the DJ’s experience with names of venues they have worked before.  Don’t always believe what you read, ask the DJ for a telephone number of a previous customer who could provide a verbal reference or request whether you can attend an event they are performing at before you book them to see what they are like.

Discuss with your selected DJ your preferred styles of music you like and what their music collection consist of, it’s always best to let your DJ know before the event the kind of music that you would like to be played.  A professional DJ will encourage you to create a playlist of your favourite records and then advise on what will work within the timeframe of the party.

The costs involved in hiring a Mobile Disco will vary depending on their experience and equipment supplied, this can range from £100.00 to £10,000 for a named DJ. In my experience of life, you get what you pay for, therefore, any prices quoted below £250, make sure you understand what you are getting, discuss the experience of your DJ, the lighting and sound system they are providing.

When you are attend a party with a DJ you like, ask them for a business card before you leave, this way you will know what you are going to get for your money. Remember, the cheapest will not always be the best, however, the most expensive one may not be either.  Do your homework.

Very busy this weekend, working Friday at Wood Hall Hotal and Spa for a wedding, The village Hotel in Leeds on Saturday for another wedding and Sunday night in Huddersfield for a Christening.  All sound super clients with great taste in music.  Looking forward to using our new lighting and staging.  December is creeping up and sadly I am fully booked for the month already.
